Cellulite and Its Causes

Cellulite appears as dimpled areas on the skin, giving it an uneven or "orange peel" appearance, as some people describe it. How can cellulite be treated and its appearance effectively reduced? Let's learn how to get rid of cellulite.

Causes of cellulite:
Hormones are likely to play a significant role in the development of cellulite. Estrogen, insulin, norepinephrine, thyroid hormones, and prolactin are part of cellulite production.
One theory suggests that as estrogen levels decrease in women approaching menopause, blood flow to the connective tissue under the skin also decreases.
Reduced blood circulation means a lack of oxygen in specific areas of the body leads to decreased collagen production. Fat cells also expand as estrogen levels decrease.
These factors combine to make fat deposits more visible. Subcutaneous fat also protrudes by weakening the connective tissue, resulting in the usual cellulite effect.
Aging also causes the skin to become less elastic, thinner, and more prone to sagging. This significantly increases the chances of a cellulite appearance.
Genetic factors may also be related to a person's metabolic rate, distribution of subcutaneous fat under the skin, perspiration, and blood circulation levels, which can also increase the likelihood of cellulite appearance.

Alternative or additional treatments include:
Caffeine.
Grape seed extract.
Ginkgo biloba.
Other treatments include injections and topical creams, but their effectiveness has not been proven.

Some people wear compression garments to minimize the appearance of this issue. These garments compress the arteries and increase blood and lymphatic flow to reduce visible cellulite. Compression stockings and other garments can be purchased online but these techniques' effectiveness is not proven yet.
